The deepest and warmest. A low rumble, like heavy rain heard from indoors or distant thunder. The one most people reach for to fall asleep.
Pink
Softer and rounder than white, with more weight in the low end. Sits between brown and white — steady rainfall on a roof.
White
An even hiss across every frequency — the classic sound-machine tone, and the best of the four at covering sudden noises.
Green
A midrange-centred hush, close to wind through trees or a distant waterfall. Gentler than white, easy to leave on while working.

Is the brown noise really free?
Yes. Brown noise plays for as long as you want, with no time limit, no daily cap and no account. The sleep timer works on the free plan too, up to a full eight hours. A subscription only unlocks the other three noise colours, the seven nature beds, and the ability to layer sounds together.
What is brown noise?
Brown noise is a type of sound signal whose energy is concentrated in the low frequencies, falling off steeply as pitch rises. That's what makes it sound like a deep rumble rather than a hiss. The name comes from Brownian motion — the random-walk process used to generate it — not from the colour.
How is it different from white noise?
White noise spreads energy evenly across all frequencies, which makes it sound bright and hissy. Brown noise weights the low end heavily, so it reads as deeper and softer. Pink noise sits between the two. Which one suits you is personal — the player at the top of this page lets you compare all four.
Does it keep playing when my phone is locked?
Yes. Audio continues when the screen locks or you switch to another app, and you can pause and resume from the lock screen or Control Center.
Will it drain my battery overnight?
Audio playback is one of the lighter background tasks on iOS, and the app keeps the screen off and does no network activity while playing. Running it overnight uses a modest amount of battery — plugging in is still the safe habit for an all-night session.
How do I cancel a subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not inside the app. On your iPhone open Settings, tap your name at the top, then Subscriptions, and select Brown Noise Free. Cancelling during a free trial keeps your access until the trial period ends.
I paid but the sounds are still locked.
Open the You tab and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you bought with — purchases are tied to the Apple ID, not the device. If it still doesn't unlock, get in touch and we'll sort it out.
